Creative Writing Contest!

The High School Creative Writing Class at Redeeming Grace Church’s homeschool Co-op invites homeschool writers in the sixth through twelfth grades to participate in a Creative Writing Contest featuring poetry, personal essays, and short fiction.

  • The contest is divided into two age categories: High School (9-12 grade) & Junior High School (6-8 grade)
  • Cash prizes (or gift cards) will be awarded for first place in each genre (poetry, personal essay, or short fiction) for each group (high school & junior high school)
  • Interest depending, awards will recognize first, second, & third places and selected honorable mentions
  • Also interest depending, we hope to publish most of the submissions as a chapbook available for purchase (specifics to be announced)
  • All work will be evaluated by qualified independent judges


  1. All submissions must be original, unpublished work by a homeschool student
  2. All submissions are due no later than April 20, 2018, via email to
  3. All email submissions must have the following personal information in the email:
    1. Writer’s name & grade
    2. A list of the titles and genres of each piece of writing being submitted
    3. The homeschool parent’s name & email contact
    4. Any homeschool affiliations you wish to highlight (your church homeschool support groups or cooperatives, etc. – not required)
    5. A brief paragraph (~100 words) describing student’s interests or plans
  4. All personal essay and short fiction submissions must be no longer than 3000 words
  5. There are no minimum or maximum number of pieces of writing that each writer may submit
  6. Each piece of writing must be its own unique file that is attached to the email submission as a Word (or Pages) document (thus, one email with several attachments)
