Embracing God’s Word Every Day

Hey there, RGC Family!

Can we talk about something awesome, and truly amazing? The opportunity to immerse ourselves in God’s Word.

My spiritual journey took a beautiful turn when I found my home at Redeeming Grace Church. One of the most exciting parts? The way we embrace God’s Word every single day.

Although we would all agree that daily Bible reading is important, staying consistent with daily readings can sometimes feel like a mountain to climb.

I’ve been on a rollercoaster of Bible reading plans over the years, experiencing both the highs of completing one, as well as the lows of feeling like it’s just another checklist where I didn’t get as much out of it as I was hoping for. At times this left me feeling frustrated and discouraged. Can you relate?

My experience changed when I decided to join the Bible reading plan the church uses. I no longer had to hunt for a new plan every year. And it’s been very encouraging to know that there are many others who are reading through the same plan. I have also benefited tremendously by the daily devotionals matching these readings in D.A. Carson’s For the Love of God Volume Two.

You don’t have to wait until January 1 to start a Bible reading plan! I want to encourage you join this Bible reading plan. Yes, even mid-year. This Bible reading plan is adapted by one put together by Scottish preacher Robert Murray M’Cheyne (1813-1843). This year’s reading has you to read Ezra through Malachi, and the New Testament and Psalms.

If you have fallen behind, or haven’t started it yet, no worries! Do not use that as an excuse to throw in the towel until next year. Just skip ahead to where you should be and go on from there.

In God’s providence, the Bible reading on May 30 was Revelation 1. Which means if you join the plan now you are diving straight into Revelation for the rest of June! Talk about perfect timing, right? If you stick with it for the rest of the year you will get to read the four Gospels, the book of Psalms, and Jeremiah to Malachi.

Remember, if you fall behind, don’t sweat it. Catch up, skip ahead – just keep going! D.A. Carson writes “If you fall behind, do not use that as an excuse for giving up the effort. Either catch up (by an afternoon of diligent reading, perhaps some Sunday), or skip ahead to where you should be and take up there.”

Additionally, for those traveling, or if you prefer an audio version, you can find the readings in podcast form, and in The Gospel Coalition app you can find an audio version of Carson’s meditations.

Revelation 1:3 reminds us of the joy in reading and keeping God’s Word close to our hearts:

Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.

Let’s soak up the blessings waiting for us, friends.

So, what do you say? Will you join me on this incredible journey through Scripture?
