A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett tells the story of Sarah Crewe – a young, English girl who moves from India to England. Sarah, a gentle spirit who finds the good in everyone, is placed into the care of Miss Minchin – a critical, unloving schoolmarm. Sarah’s wealth ensures her special treatment at the school, but her kindness endears her to her schoolmates and a poor servant named Becky. She is called a princess, not only by her father, but lovingly by her friends and sarcastically by her enemies. Sarah’s father eventually dies penniless leaving Sarah at the mercy of Miss Minchin. Sarah and Becky are now equals in the eyes of society and endure the verbal taunts and cruelty of others who value worth based upon one’s wealth. However, when Sarah’s circumstances change, her character does not (Romans 5: 3-5). Please join us as we present the classic work A Little Princess which still holds relevance in today’s world.
