RGCC StaffVolunteer Spotlight (2000 × 500 px) (820 × 312 px) (2)

At Redeeming Grace Church, we believe the church is not a building, it’s people serving together to glorify God. We regularly highlight a volunteer or staff member who serves with RGC because they make everything we do possible!

Today we want to introduce you to Jack Kahler, who also serves with Young Life Capernaum, a ministry partner of RGC! Here's what his supervisor from Young Life Capernaum had to say about him:

Jack's love for the Gospel and passion to share it with our friends with disabilities is a gift from the Lord to our Young Life Capernaum team. I see Jesus clearly in Jack in many ways. He is steady and firm in his faith. He is the first on our team to remind us to pray and tell us how God sees us. God has gifted Jack with quiet wisdom. When he speaks, people listen because he is sharing truths of who God is. He also models humility, adaptability, and takes the posture of a learner. Jack, thank you for saying yes to being on the Capernaum staff team this year. I am so grateful to call you a co-laborer, teammate, and friend.

~ Maison Litterl, Young Life Capernaum Director for Fairfax County

What volunteer roles are you involved in?

I am part of The Welcome Team and serve with Grace Kids. For the Welcome Team, I greet people as they come in and help them if they have any questions. If they are new members or people just visiting, I give them welcome packets with information about the church. I also serve in Grace Kids as a helper in the Seahorses class. I help the teacher gather the kids together, help the kids out in the activities or games, as well as helping the teacher out if there is a bad situation. If someone is having a really bad day, I will be there for them or help to set up the class or clean it afterward.

How did God lead you to be involved in those areas?

God led me to serve on the Welcome Team through my parents, seeing the way they were welcoming the people coming into the church inspired me to want to welcome others as well. Because God sees me as having a welcoming heart just like my parents. God was already directing me to work with the children's ministry, back when the church was called Sovereign Grace. I believe He saw in me a willingness to serve the next generation so that they would want to become great followers of God and Jesus. And because God views them as most blessed because of their youth.

How have you seen God at work in our church community?

I have seen God at work within our church through many more people attending the church and being more involved in church-wide activities and events. And ultimately having more people both young and old being more willing to share God’s love at church, such as making friends and learning more about God. As well as having more baptisms.

Could you tell us some interesting facts about you?

My favorite food is mac and cheese. My favorite area of interest is history and military history, like the Civil War. I also like to read books as well. Most of my vacations usually revolve around historic battlefields or forts. I’ve also attended a weekly Bible Study called Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) for about seven years because I love God’s Word. The things I like in pop culture are Marvel, Star Wars, and Lord of The Rings. I like to play games such as video games (Lego games in particular) and board games. I also work at Wegmans and Young Life Capernaum. But most important of all, I like to hang out with my family and friends, whether going to social events or just hanging out in general. I have a big sister Abby that lives in Richmond. She’s 18 months older than I am.
