The Hollingsworth Family (2)

At Redeeming Grace Church, we believe the church is not a building, it’s people serving together to glorify God. We regularly highlight a volunteer or staff member who serves with RGC because they make everything we do possible!

Today, we want to introduce you to the Hollingsworth family. Sarah serves on the Announcements Team, Medical Team, and Worship Team, and Jack will serve on the Welcome Team. Here's what a member of RGC had to say:

"Church family, what a joy it is to know the Hollingsworths! Jack and Sarah are faithful servants—steadfast in their love for the church and its members. I had the privilege of being under their leadership in community group and walking through life alongside them. Through both joys and trials, their consistent faith and genuine joy have been a powerful testimony to God's work in their lives. As Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians 5:11, “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” The Hollingsworths do just that, constantly encouraging and building others up in Christ. I encourage you to get to know them and share in community with them, they are a beautiful example of Christ’s love lived out."

~ Ruth Choi, Member of RGC

"Sarah is a very gifted worshiper. Not only she is gifted with a great voice and the ability to lead people in singing worship on Sunday, but she is also patient and kind with people she serves with. She enjoys spending time helping vocalists during practice and she often thinks of ways she best support and serve the band. Sarah is a joyful person. People around her feel that as soon as she walks into the room."

~ Jackson Huang, Member of RGC

What volunteer roles are you involved in?

Sarah: I have had the joy to volunteer with the Welcome Team, Announcements Team, Medical Team, and Worship Team. Since the birth of my daughter, I have taken a step back and now serve only as a substitute for the Medical Team as needed, make announcements, and support the Worship Team. I miss greeting everyone on Sunday, however, and do hope to return to that team in the future.

Jack: I took a brief hiatus from serving after the birth of Maisie to allow Sarah the freedom to sing on the Worship Team, although I will be starting back up on the Welcome Team this month. I have viewed my support of my wife's volunteering as my ministry during this season. Before Maisie’s birth, I served as an usher, on the Welcome Team, and as a community group leader.

How did God lead you to be involved in those areas?

Sarah: I was approached by some friends about volunteering for announcements, the Welcome Team, and the Medical Team. It was a blessing to have others recognize an area where my God-given gifts could serve the body of Christ. I spent a lot of time praying over my intention and desires for serving on the Worship Team, as I never wanted my participation to come from a place of pride or selfishness. The kindness and support of Steven Zhou and Matt Fredricks when I joined encouraged me that God had called me to this ministry to serve his purpose, and I am so grateful for their ongoing leadership and care.

Jack: The Lord has given me a heart to help people feel welcome, and I felt like the Welcome Team was the perfect opportunity to greet new people walking through RGC’s doors. We have felt uniquely loved by the saints at RGC, especially when we joined years ago. I felt it was important to help others feel loved and welcomed as well. Sarah and I also led a community group briefly with Matt Sutherland. We felt called to fill a need for community group leaders during that season.

How have you seen God at work in our church community?

Sarah: We have a church that deeply cares about so many things! It is a joy to see the passions and gifts play out in so many diverse and life-giving ways. Recently, I have been enjoying watching God's will be done within the Worship Team as we navigate transitions, visions, and aspirations.

Jack: I see selflessness and love in our church body, which can only come from Christ. RGC is full of people who “practice what they preach.” It’s such a blessing to walk alongside our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Would you share about how Jesus became your personal Lord and Savior?

Sarah: While I grew up in a Christian home, I struggled with people-pleasing my whole life. When I was a sophomore in college, I studied abroad in Singapore, and I was very alone and lost. God met me 10,000 miles from home and provided me with a local church and community group to attend and ignite the fire in my belly. Upon returning to the United States, I recommitted myself to his will and slowly began to make the changes he desired in my life. It has been a joy to not only grow up with my husband since high school, but also grow in our faith and walk with him together.

Jack: I grew up going to church, but my faith really started to form in college as a member of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. Since then, Sarah and I have walked through a lot of challenging trials together, and the Lord has been faithful to us each and every time. He continues to remind us that his promises are perfect and that Christ’s power is made perfect in our weakness.

Could you tell us some interesting facts about you?

Sarah & Jack: We love bird-watching and used to track the bird migration of warblers every Spring and Fall. It has been harder since the birth of our daughter, but we hope to go on a birding trip soon. We are also big Philadelphia Eagles fans and had fun celebrating the Super Bowl together this year.
