Child dedications are not a ‘type’ of baptism, but rather an expression of our heartfelt desire to raise our children according to Scripture and make a public declaration of that desire. It is a statement of our dependence on God and our need for grace. In dedicating our children to the Lord, we are in a sense dedicating ourselves and our families, acknowledging our need for God’s help, and expressing our desire to raise our children among our church family.
