Mark’s Sabbatical Update

Dear RGC Family,

I’m writing to you from my familiar desk in our church office, sitting here for the first time since November. Today marks my first day back in the office since I began a three-month Sabbatical and I wish I could reach out to each one of you personally to say, “Thank you!!!!” and give you a hug – or at least a fist bump.

For the past three months I’ve been “striving to enter that [Sabbath] rest” that God has prepared for his people, and I’m humbled and grateful for this time. Thank you for your generosity, prayers, encouragement, and support that have made this time possible.

My understanding of Sabbath rest is that it is rest from work and rest for work. During this time of rest, I was able to make two trips to California, visiting family and getting time with Mom, who continues to recover from an aneurism. I was also able to soak in early church history, slow down to have extra time to think and pray and meet with God, do some painting at home, exercise regularly, visit a number of churches, and spend extra time with my bride and best friend, Lesley.

My hope is that this time of rest will enable me to serve our great Triune God, and you, my dear church family, with renewed joy and effectiveness. Lesley and I love being part of this congregation and look forward to serving here, Lord willing, for many years to come.

I look forward to seeing you soon!

Peace,

Mark
